As a UX motion designer on the Google Design Platform, I worked on projects that showcased Google’s motion systems for both internal teams and external partners.
I created the foundation for component animations by applying current guidelines and incorporating new parameters developed by the Google UX research team. This process led to over 60 motion demos for components across both iOS and Android platforms. The publicly available guidelines for Material 3 (M3) can be viewed here.

By visually demonstrating component motion, we were able to show proper usage (panel left) and what to avoid (panel right).
In addition, we provided guidance on how components should move when the device screen size changes, ensuring behaviors remain appropriate for each component.
My work also included demos for emerging technologies in M3, such as XR. In collaboration with the XR Interactive product design team, I developed clear “do” and “don’t” guidelines for XR behavior in components like the Navigation Rail and Navigation Bar.
Accessibility was a key consideration throughout this process. Designing motion that communicates behavior clearly was essential for ensuring these components were inclusive and easy to use.
